Project Description
The site facilities project outcome was to supply, install and commission the client site offices, crib room, training room and ice room at Pilgangoora mine site, located 1.5 hours east of Port Hedland.
The project scope of works encompassed the cranage, landing and complexing of the site construction offices, crib room, training room and ice room and all associated plumbing and electrical works, including:
- supply and installation of raw & potable water tanks
- supply and installation of sewerage system
- supply and installation of the main distribution board for the site offices
- connection of generators for buildings & fuel tank
- testing and commissioning of all buildings
In addition the scope of works also included earthworks to facilitate the building installation, the supply and installation of a 50,000 litre fuel tank and comprehensive handover to the client at completion. The construction was to allow for future expansion of the facilities, whilst ensuring the most cost-effective solution for the current facilities was provided.
The key challenge for this project was a 3-week construction schedule which required careful planning and execution, as well as strong leadership to ensure all parties were on track.
Overcoming this challenge was only possible as a result of the effective collaboration between the Project Engineer, client, subcontractors and site-based personnel.
Upon completion of the site facilities installation, the client retained members of our personnel and a number of items of plant and equipment to provide on-going services for the duration of their contract. This provided the opportunity for on-going employment for four indigenous persons and such opportunity continues to be available today, with the strong possibility of extension past the original contact end date of August 2018. between the Project Engineer, client, subcontractors and site-based personnel.
This project was completed with zero safety incidents and met the reduced time lines and strict budget expectations of the client.
