It’s Our Culture
Pilbara Resource Group is proud of its long-standing relationship with the Njamal People, the Traditional Owners of the Njamal lands which stretch east of South Hedland, past Marble Bar and out to Wandanya on the Great Sandy Desert.
Across our portfolio, we work cohesively with some 14 traditional families to bring new financial, employment, education and social service opportunities to the Njamal People’s Trust which supports the management of their country, people and heritage. Specifically, our indigenous strategy is active across 3 pillars of engagement:
- Providing gainful employment
- Identifying and creating indigenous family businesses
- Engaging as Tier 1 contractors providing financial returns to the trust
Pilbara Resource Group meets regularly with nominated representatives of the Njamal people to identify and pursue joint venture opportunities with potential investors and resource companies seeking to develop their mineral rich lands. Similarly, the Traditional Owners also provide support to Aboriginal people seeking employment with Pilbara Resource Group.
Ultimately, we seek to instil greater understanding and awareness of Aboriginal culture throughout our business dealings. By leveraging our unique project portfolio, we are continuing to successfully create opportunities for Aboriginal employment and training, providing the necessary skills development to participate in world-class project developments.
Pilbara Resource Group is widening its indigenous engagement through recently formed partnerships with the Banjyma, Kariyarra and Tjiwarl peoples. It is our plan to develop the same opportunities for individuals and groups with each of these communities whilst ensuring our clients continue to receive the high standard of service they are accustomed to from Pilbara Resource Group.
We continuously explore opportunities for Aboriginal participation given the immeasurable mutual benefits that can yield for the traditional land owners, and our clients.”
